AAA: Memorial Day Weekend Gas Prices Hit Four-Year High

WEST VIRGINIA (WVNS) – Each year, millions of Americans map out Memorial Day weekend getaways, but elevated fuel costs this year are leading many drivers to rethink their itineraries.

A tractor-trailer accident on I-77 Northbound in Fayette County caused lane closures and traffic delays, adding to the frustration for holiday travelers already facing pricier gas.

AAA reports that gas prices for the Memorial Day weekend are expected to reach their highest level in four years, with the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline estimated at $4.56.

Inflation is squeezing Americans not only at the pump but also at the grocery store. Prices for barbecue staples such as beef and bratwurst have climbed sharply, prompting some households to scale back their traditional cookout plans.

Costs show no signs of easing, according to data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, which indicates a steady upward trend in gas prices since the start of the year.
