Armed Robbery at Leicester Betting Shop: Gunman Makes Off With Cash

Police in Leicestershire have launched an investigation following an armed robbery at a betting shop in the village of Glenfield, where a man reportedly brandished a handgun and made off with a quantity of cash.

The incident occurred at a business on Stamford Street around 6 p.m. on Sunday, according to Leicestershire Police. A female employee was approached by a man holding what officers described as a pistol-like weapon. The suspect threatened the staff member before grabbing an undisclosed sum of money and fleeing the scene.

Detective Inspector Graeme Baxter of Leicestershire Police said authorities are urging anyone who was inside the shop at the time, or who may have witnessed the suspect fleeing, to come forward. “We are conducting a thorough investigation and would ask anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact us,” Baxter said in a statement. “Even if you saw something that didn’t seem significant at the time, it could be crucial to our case.”

No injuries were reported during the robbery, and no arrests have been made as of Monday. The suspect remains at large, and police have not yet disclosed a detailed description of the individual.

The robbery has unsettled the quiet suburb of Glenfield, a community that rarely sees such violent crime. Local residents have expressed concern, with some calling for increased patrols in the area. Similar robberies at betting shops have been on the rise in parts of the U.K. in recent years, often targeting businesses with limited security and late-night operations.
