Coast Guard Searches Off Nantucket for Missing Medical Transport Jet With 6 Aboard

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching off the coast of Massachusetts near Nantucket for a medical transport aircraft carrying six people after the Gulfstream jet went missing early Saturday on a flight from Bermuda to Boston, the agency said.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued a search and rescue alert notice around 1:20 a.m. for the Gulfstream G-100, which had departed L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda bound for Boston Logan International Airport, according to the FAA.
The FAA reported losing contact with the aircraft early Saturday, the Coast Guard Northeast District said. The search is focused off Nantucket, a Massachusetts island about 30 miles south of Cape Cod.
The missing Gulfstream's tail number is registered to Latitude Air Ambulance, a Canada-based company. No additional information about the six people aboard was immediately available, and authorities have not said what type of medical mission the aircraft was operating.
The disappearance underscores the challenges of search-and-rescue operations over open ocean, where Coast Guard crews must coordinate aircraft, cutters, radar tracks, and distress signals across a vast area. Medical transport flights often operate on tight schedules and can carry patients, clinicians, and specialized equipment, making any interruption especially urgent for families and receiving hospitals.
Officials did not immediately release the aircraft's flight path or possible cause of the loss of contact. The Coast Guard said the search remained underway Saturday off Nantucket.
