Fireworks AI Said to Seek New Funding at $15 Billion Valuation

(Bloomberg) -- Fireworks AI, a startup that helps companies deploy and manage artificial intelligence models, is in early-stage discussions to raise a new funding round that would value the company at roughly $15 billion, according to people familiar with the matter.

The round is expected to be co-led by Index Ventures, an existing backer of the company, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private. The deal has not been finalized, and terms could still change.

Representatives for Fireworks AI and Index Ventures declined to comment.

The company focuses on AI inference — the process of running already-trained models to generate predictions or outputs — a segment that has become a hot spot for investors amid the current artificial intelligence boom. The inference market is expected to grow rapidly as more companies integrate AI into their products and services, driving demand for fast, cost-efficient model execution.

Fireworks operates in a crowded field of startups competing for enterprise customers. Key rivals include Baseten Labs Inc., which hit a $5 billion valuation in January, and Features & Labels Inc. — better known as Fal — valued at $4.5 billion in December. The proposed $15 billion valuation for Fireworks would place it well ahead of these peers, reflecting its traction with top-tier clients such as Cursor, an AI coding startup.

Founded in 2022 by a group of former Meta Platforms Inc. engineers, Fireworks last raised $250 million in October, co-led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Index Ventures and Evantic, at a $4 billion valuation. The potential jump to $15 billion in under a year underscores the breakneck pace of AI infrastructure investing and the premium investors are placing on companies that help bridge the gap between model development and real-world deployment.

Industry analysts note that the funding frenzy also reflects a broader shift: as large language models become commoditized, the value is moving to the platforms that optimize inference speed, reduce costs, and manage model orchestration for enterprises. Fireworks' technology, which claims to deliver low-latency results by leveraging advanced hardware and software optimizations, positions it to capture a growing slice of that market.
