Florida Deputy's Bodycam Captures Harrowing Rescue: Woman Pulled From Burning Wreck Seconds Before Explosion
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A routine patrol turned into a race against time for a Florida sheriff's deputy, with his body-worn camera capturing every heart-stopping second as he dragged a woman from a burning vehicle moments before it was fully consumed by fire.
The chain of events began late Sunday night with a violent carjacking, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. A woman was forced from her vehicle by an armed suspect, who then sped away—unaware that the woman's 1-year-old child remained strapped in the back seat.
Deputies located the stolen car a short distance away. When they attempted a traffic stop, the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Richard Younger, crashed into another vehicle, triggering a fiery multi-car collision.
Deputy Almin Residovic, among the first on the chaotic scene, sprinted toward the struck vehicle. "I need a punch!" he is heard yelling to a fellow officer, referring to a window-breaking tool. Finding the door jammed, he managed to wrench it open, revealing the trapped driver inside, her hair already alight.
"Oh, there's a person, bro!" Residovic exclaims in the footage. Without a second's hesitation, he reached into the smoke-filled cabin, grasped the woman, and pulled her to the pavement, dragging her to a safer distance as flames licked at the car's frame.
"Please stay with me," Residovic urged the victim, administering aid while awaiting paramedics. "Stay with us. You're okay. We need to get you away from the car." Turning to another first responder, he added, "Bro, I got to her just in time. Literally, the last second."
Authorities confirmed a 14-year-old passenger had managed to escape the wreckage prior to deputies' arrival. In a simultaneous rescue, another deputy safely extracted the unharmed 1-year-old from the carjacked vehicle.
Younger was arrested at the scene and now faces a slew of felony charges, including armed carjacking and aggravated assault. The rescued woman, who has not been publicly named, is reportedly recovering from her injuries.
"We are profoundly proud of Deputy Residovic's extraordinary bravery and the seamless response of our team," the Sheriff's Office stated. The victim later expressed her immense gratitude, telling officials she credits Residovic with saving her life.
Community Reaction:
"As a former EMT, I've seen scenes like this. Deputy Residovic's training and instinct kicked in perfectly. That split-second decision is the difference between life and death. This is what our first responders sign up for, but it's never less than astounding to witness." — Michael Torres, 52, Security Consultant
"The heroism is undeniable, and thank God for that deputy. But let's not let this dramatic footage distract from the root cause: the suspect was out on the streets. How many prior chances did the system give him? This wasn't just a random act; it's a symptom of a revolving-door justice system that fails to protect the innocent until it's almost too late." — Danielle Reeves, 41, Community Advocate
"Watching that video took my breath away. The sheer terror of the victim, the calm urgency of the deputy... it's overwhelming. It's a stark reminder of the dangers our law enforcement face daily and the fragile thread our own safety hangs by. My heart is with that mother and her baby." — James Chen, 38, High School Teacher
