Musk Praises AfD’s Saxony-Anhalt Win, Prompting Offer of Cooperation

Elon Musk congratulated the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) on its state election win in Saxony-Anhalt, and the response from the party was quick: an invitation to imagine what cooperation could look like if the AfD assumes power.
Musk wrote "Well done!" on his social platform X, replying to a post in which AfD co-leader Alice Weidel congratulated Ulrich Siegmund, the party’s lead candidate in the eastern German state.
Siegmund did not waste the exchange. Thanking the world’s richest man for his "support," he wrote: "If we take responsibility here, I would very much welcome the opportunity for strong and constructive cooperation. Germany would once again be a place worth investing in."
Richard Grenell, the former US ambassador to Germany, also weighed in on X, calling the result "a huge win and a new day in Germany." Grenell, who has stayed close to President Donald Trump, was no stranger to controversy during his time as ambassador in Berlin.
Trump himself has not yet commented on the Saxony-Anhalt outcome.
The exchange is the latest sign of how closely the AfD is aligning itself with figures around Trump. Weidel has described Trump as a role model, AfD representatives traveled to his inauguration, and Musk has continued to use his platform to boost right-wing politicians after campaigning heavily for the AfD in the past. The practical value for the AfD is visibility beyond Germany: attention from one of the most-followed accounts on X helps a party that remains outside government and politically isolated at home turn a regional result into a national talking point.
