There is, however, no place for violence, and no tolerance for attacks on police officers. The mayor added that the overwhelming majority of fans celebrated responsibly and urged everyone to continue doing so as the Finals return to New York for Game 3 this week. No arrests have been announced as of Wednesday morning, and the condition of the injured officer was not immediately released. The NYPD said the investigation is ongoing. The Knicks organization declined to comment but issued a brief statement earlier in the night asking fans to “celebrate with respect.”
The incident comes as the city braces for more large crowds ahead of the next home game. With the Finals now tied 1-1, authorities are expected to deploy additional officers and implement stricter security measures around the arena.
