Oklahoma Man Accused of Using 'Home-Made Flamethrower' on Deputies Serving Eviction

The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office has released body-camera footage showing a 61-year-old man allegedly firing a homemade flamethrower at deputies who were serving an eviction notice this month.

The video, made public Wednesday, shows deputies arriving at an apartment on South Harvey Avenue on Aug. 11. The door, according to authorities, was barricaded. After forcing their way inside, deputies move through the home and eventually spot a man in a bedroom. Moments later, a large burst of flames shoots roughly 15 feet out of the doorway toward the officers.

The man, identified as Darron Dunn, is accused of using the improvised weapon. Authorities said deputies also found what appeared to be an explosive device connected to a car battery. The sheriff's office called in its tactical team and bomb squad before taking Dunn into custody.

Dunn now faces charges including assault and battery with a deadly weapon, possession of an incendiary device or explosives, and obstructing an officer.

The incident highlights how quickly an eviction can escalate into a dangerous situation, especially when residents feel backed into a corner. It also underscores the risks deputies face while carrying out court orders and the growing role body-worn cameras play in documenting exactly what happened.
