Pittsburgh-area high schools earn high marks in U.S. News rankings. See the list
The latest U.S. News & World Report high school rankings are out — and a number of Pittsburgh-area schools posted strong results on both the state and national levels.
In a report released Aug. 18, U.S. News & World Report ranked nearly 18,000 public high schools across the country. The methodology takes into account college readiness, college curriculum breadth, state assessment proficiency and performance, outcomes for underserved student groups, and graduation rates.
Among Pittsburgh-area schools, Upper Saint Clair High School finished highest nationally at No. 426. Fox Chapel Area High School landed at No. 508, followed by Mt. Lebanon High School at No. 517 and Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy at No. 1,159. In total, 14 local schools placed in the top 10,000 high schools nationwide:

- Obama Academy (Pittsburgh Obama 6-12): No. 5,540
- North Hills High School: No. 5,643
- Baldwin Senior High School: No. 6,168
- Brentwood Senior High School: No. 7,532
- Propel Charter School-Braddock Hills: No. 8,446
- Pittsburgh Carrick High School: No. 8,525
On the statewide list, Fox Chapel Area High School was the top local finisher at No. 14, with Mt. Lebanon High School close behind at No. 15. Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 ranked No. 19. Other Pittsburgh-area schools in Pennsylvania's top 500 include:

For families comparing districts or weighing options across Pittsburgh's public, charter and magnet school landscape, the rankings can serve as a reference point. But a numerical list only captures part of what makes a high school work for students. Classroom culture, extracurricular offerings, support services and community ties all shape the daily experience in ways that don't show up in a ranking.
