Security Stops Trespasser at Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff’s Malibu Home; No Arrests

LOS ANGELES — A woman was stopped by security after she walked onto the Malibu property of former Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, former second gentleman Doug Emhoff, authorities and a Harris spokesperson said.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the home around 10:30 p.m., according to TMZ and the Los Angeles Times. A spokesperson for Harris told TMZ that the former vice president’s security team “stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff’s property before the individual reached the home.”

Neither Harris nor Emhoff was at the residence at the time, the spokesperson said. “They are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly,” the spokesperson added.

The woman agreed to leave voluntarily and was not arrested, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times and TMZ. LASD Lt. Jason Duron told the Times that deputies are increasing patrols in the area as a precaution. “We are stepping up patrols of the property to be safe,” Duron said.

Harris and Emhoff bought the Malibu home within the past year, and it has been reported to be worth more than $8 million. The incident underscores the security challenges that can follow high-profile former officials and their families after they leave office, and it is likely to renew attention on the protections afforded to former elected leaders.

It is not the first time the couple has dealt with unwanted visitors near their homes. In January 2025, two people were detained during curfew hours at Harris’s former Brentwood home after reports of a possible burglary, according to KTLA. The curfew was in effect as the Palisades and Eaton fires burned across Los Angeles. Neither person was arrested, and no evidence was found suggesting they had committed a crime.
