Teen arrested on drug and driving charges after car strikes boy on scooter at zebra crossing

A teenage man has been arrested on suspicion of drug possession with intent to supply and driving offences following a collision that sent an 11-year-old boy to the hospital with cuts and a broken tooth.

The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. on 26 June, when the child was riding his scooter across a zebra crossing on Querns Lane in Cirencester. A car struck him as he crossed, according to Gloucestershire Constabulary.

The boy sustained cuts to his hands and fingers, along with a chipped tooth, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was not life-threatening, authorities said.

Police arrested a male from Cricklade, Wiltshire, on suspicion of possession of a class B drug with intent to supply, as well as driving without due care and attention. The suspect, whose age has not been officially released but is described as in his late teens, remains in custody pending further investigation.

Local residents have expressed concern over pedestrian safety on Querns Lane, which sees moderate traffic near schools and residential areas. The zebra crossing where the crash took place is frequently used by children walking or cycling to nearby schools.

Gloucestershire Constabulary is urging anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.
