Texas drilling permits, completions hold steady in June 2026, RRC data shows

The Railroad Commission of Texas issued 750 original drilling permits in June 2026, according to a news release. Of those, 686 were for new oil or gas wells, 6 for re-entering plugged wellbores, 1 field transfer, 56 for recompletions and 1 reclassification. The well-type breakdown shows 146 oil, 60 gas, 496 combined oil and gas, 32 injection and 16 other permits.

On the completion side, commission staff processed 965 oil completions, 739 gas completions and 127 injection completions during the month. The data, which reflects activity across Texas’ major oil and gas plays, signals that operators are maintaining a steady pace of development despite ongoing market uncertainty. Texas continues to account for a significant share of U.S. crude oil output, and the June permit figures align with the long-term trend of robust drilling in the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford Shale.
