Three dead, officer wounded in suburban Oregon shooting; suspect in custody

A shooting outside Portland, Oregon, on Sunday left three people dead and one police officer wounded, according to authorities. The suspect, identified as Bryan Andrew Moore, was taken into custody several hours after the incident and faces charges including second-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.

The shooting unfolded around 4 p.m. PT in the city of Sandy, a suburban community roughly 30 miles east of Portland. Police Chief Patrick Huskey said officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance and came under fire upon arrival. They returned fire, and one officer was struck multiple times. The officer was airlifted via Life Flight helicopter and is in stable condition, expected to survive.

Three victims were killed at the scene, court documents reviewed by CBS affiliate KOIN confirmed. The suspect surrendered to law enforcement at about 8 p.m., unharmed, after authorities surrounded a residential property. A shelter-in-place order for a southeastern section of the city was lifted shortly after the arrest.

“I understand everyone wants answers and information right now, but this remains a very dynamic and active investigation,” Huskey said in a statement. “I know many people are grieving. I ask everyone in our community to keep the victims, our injured officer, their families, friends and all of the first responders in their thoughts tonight.”

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and the Clackamas County Major Crimes Team are leading the investigation. Chief Huskey described the event as “a traumatic event for our community, and the Sandy Police Department.” The shooting adds to a rising number of domestic-violence-related gun incidents in the Pacific Northwest, where state lawmakers have recently debated stronger firearm restrictions following a series of mass shootings in the region. Community vigils are being planned, and local mental health resources have been activated to support residents and first responders.

Authorities have not yet released a motive or details about the relationship between the suspect and the victims. “There is much we cannot share at this time,” Huskey noted, urging patience as investigators process the scene and conduct interviews.
