Vertiv Deepens AI Cooling Push With Two Acquisitions and New Water-Saving Service

Vertiv Holdings Co. (NYSE: VRT) is sharpening its focus on the infrastructure demands of artificial intelligence, adding manufacturing and engineering capacity through two recent acquisitions and rolling out a new service aimed at reducing water consumption in hyperscale data centers.

The company has closed deals for ThermoKey and Strategic Thermal Labs, two specialists in thermal solutions that bring in-house expertise in liquid cooling and heat rejection systems. On the product side, Vertiv also launched PurgeRite NearZero, a service designed to help large data center operators minimize water waste without compromising cooling performance.

These moves come as data center operators race to handle the higher heat loads generated by AI and GPU-heavy workloads. Traditional air cooling is increasingly insufficient, pushing demand toward liquid-cooling architectures and more efficient thermal management. At the same time, environmental regulations and corporate sustainability goals are putting pressure on hyperscalers and colocation providers to reduce water usage, even as they scale power and cooling capacity.

By integrating ThermoKey and Strategic Thermal Labs, Vertiv gains greater control over lead times and customization for large AI projects — an area where it competes with Eaton and nVent. The acquisitions also broaden Vertiv’s geographic reach and customer base. The PurgeRite NearZero service addresses a specific pain point: hyperscale developers that need to keep water consumption in check while pushing rack densities higher.

For investors watching VRT, these developments highlight how Vertiv is positioning itself to capture more of the spending tied to AI infrastructure. The company has reported a large backlog, and the ability to convert that backlog into revenue without project delays will be a key metric. Analysts will also be watching how quickly ThermoKey and Strategic Thermal Labs help shorten delivery times or improve win rates on AI-related data center bids.

Another signal to watch is how often PurgeRite NearZero is specified in new hyperscale and colocation projects. If adoption picks up, it would indicate that Vertiv’s water-efficiency push is resonating with customers facing tighter environmental rules.
