VinFast Accelerates: Global EV Deliveries More Than Double in 2025, Led by Southeast Asian Surge

HANOI – VinFast Auto, Vietnam's pioneering electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has posted explosive growth for 2025, underscoring its rapid transformation from a domestic player to a burgeoning global force. The company announced global deliveries of 196,919 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) last year, a staggering 102% increase from 97,399 units in 2024. This performance solidifies its position in the fiercely competitive EV sector.

The growth narrative extends beyond four-wheelers. VinFast also delivered 406,498 electric scooters and e-bikes worldwide, a 473% year-on-year surge, highlighting its multi-pronged strategy for electrified mobility.

Home Turf Dominance and International Expansion

Domestically, VinFast continues to command the market. Local sales in Vietnam nearly doubled to 175,099 units in 2025, capturing roughly one-third of the country's total vehicle market, which is estimated to have surpassed 550,000 units. The compact VF3 remained its best-seller domestically.

The more significant story, however, lies in its overseas push. VinFast sold 21,820 vehicles internationally last year. This growth is strategically fueled by new local production hubs. The company recently commissioned assembly plants in India and Indonesia, with the latter becoming its largest overseas market in 2025 with 10,890 deliveries, according to industry data.

"The 2025 numbers are a clear validation of VinFast's capital-intensive global strategy," said Michael Chen, an automotive analyst based in Singapore. "Establishing local assembly in key markets like Indonesia and India is crucial to circumvent tariffs, reduce costs, and tailor products to regional preferences. Their success in Southeast Asia provides a vital blueprint before tackling more saturated markets like the US and Europe."

Product Lineup Drives Demand

A refreshed model lineup contributed significantly to the momentum. The August launch of the Limo Green, a battery-powered multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), became an instant hit in Vietnam. The company's sales chart for the year was led by the VF3 (44,585 units), followed by the VF5 (43,913), the Limo Green (27,127), the VF6 (23,291), the Herio Green (12,568), and the VF7 (9,653).

Voices from the Industry

Sarah Lim, Sustainability Investor, Jakarta: "This is incredibly promising. VinFast's deep push into Indonesia and India, two of the world's most promising EV markets, shows foresight. Their growth isn't just about sales; it's about building the infrastructure and brand loyalty needed for long-term viability."

David Park, Auto Industry Consultant, Seoul: "The percentage growth is impressive, but the absolute volume outside Vietnam is still modest. The real test begins now. Can they achieve scale and consistent quality in these new manufacturing bases? And can they turn a profit? The road ahead is far tougher than the road behind."

Priya Sharma, Tech Journalist, New Delhi: "Frankly, I'm skeptical of these delivery figures. They're throwing massive subsidies and incentives in every market to buy market share. What's the real, sustainable demand once the promotional pricing ends? This feels like a house of cards built on relentless capital burn, not genuine product appeal."

Arno Schmidt, Urban Mobility Researcher, Berlin: "The e-scooter numbers are perhaps more revolutionary than the car sales. It shows VinFast understands that electrification in Asia often starts on two wheels. This could be their secret weapon for building a ubiquitous brand presence."
