Woman Pronounced Dead at Des Moines International Airport After Medical Emergency

A woman was pronounced dead at Des Moines International Airport on Wednesday morning after being found unresponsive in a public area of the terminal, according to local authorities.

The Des Moines Police Department responded to reports of an unresponsive adult female inside the airport around the morning hours of June 24, public information officer Paul Parizek told PEOPLE.

Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel immediately initiated CPR, but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. The woman was declared dead at the scene.

Parizek confirmed that the woman was in a location visible to both airport employees and the general public. He emphasized that investigators have found no signs of criminal activity connected to the incident.

“There’s no sign of any criminal action contributing to her death,” Parizek said. The department is now awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

Authorities have not yet released the woman’s age or identity, as they are still in the process of notifying her next of kin.

A spokesperson for Des Moines International Airport said that a deceased individual was discovered on airport property that morning, and that emergency responders and law enforcement were notified immediately. The airport confirmed that operations continued without disruption, and there was no impact to travelers.

Medical emergencies in airport terminals, while rare, are handled under established protocols involving on-site first responders and coordination with local emergency services. The incident has prompted no changes to airport security or procedures, officials said.
