Blackstone Explores Sale of Interplex's ICT Unit in Potential $1 Billion-Plus Deal

By Sophia Reynolds | Financial Markets Editor

Blackstone Inc. is exploring a potential sale of the information and communications technology (ICT) unit belonging to Singapore-based manufacturer Interplex Holdings Pte., people with knowledge of the discussions said. The move comes amid rising interest from both rival private equity firms and strategic industry players, signaling continued appetite for specialized electronics manufacturing assets.

The private equity giant has engaged a financial adviser to evaluate options for the unit, which could be valued at more than $1 billion in a transaction, the people said, asking not to be identified because the deliberations are confidential. Considerations remain at an early stage and no final decision has been made.

A Blackstone representative declined to comment. Interplex did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Blackstone acquired Interplex in 2022 from Baring Private Equity Asia—now part of EQT AB—for an undisclosed sum. The company produces precision components for high-growth sectors including electric vehicles, autonomous driving systems, medical devices, and cloud infrastructure. The ICT division in focus provides hardware solutions for networking enclosures, data servers, storage drives, wearables, and mobile devices, according to the company's website.

The potential divestment highlights Blackstone's active portfolio management amid a shifting landscape for tech manufacturing investments. Industry analysts note that demand for reliable, specialized component suppliers has remained robust despite broader market volatility, making such assets attractive to both financial and strategic buyers.

Market Voices:

"This is a logical portfolio move," said David Chen, a senior analyst at Veritas Capital Advisors in Hong Kong. "The ICT unit is a strong performer in a fragmented but growing niche. A sale could allow Blackstone to recycle capital into newer verticals while still retaining exposure to Interplex's other high-potential segments like EV components."

"Another billion-dollar flip by private equity—what a surprise," commented Maya Rodriguez, a former supply chain manager and now independent industry blogger. "They buy, strip, repackage, and sell while operators and engineers deal with the instability. These short-term ownership cycles undermine long-term R&D and erode technical depth. It’s financial engineering, not industrial strategy."

"If the valuation holds, it shows confidence in the underlying demand for connectivity and data infrastructure hardware," noted Robert Kim, a partner at a Singapore-based investment firm. "Strategic buyers might see synergy with their own manufacturing or IP portfolios, especially in server and edge-computing enclosures."
