Choice Hotels Unveils Redesigned Everhome Suites to Capture Booming Extended-Stay Market

By Sophia Reynolds | Financial Markets Editor

In a strategic move to solidify its position in the lucrative extended-stay segment, Choice Hotels International has unveiled a comprehensively redesigned prototype for its Everhome Suites brand. The new design, developed through extensive collaboration with architects, contractors, and suppliers, directly addresses the dual pressures of developer economics and evolving guest expectations in the post-pandemic travel landscape.

The midscale extended-stay market has demonstrated remarkable resilience, attracting both business travelers and relocating families seeking apartment-style accommodations. Choice's new prototype is engineered to capitalize on this demand. A key selling point for franchisees is a reported 13% reduction in per-room construction costs, achieved through optimized layouts and efficient material specifications. Furthermore, the design maximizes site utility, allowing for nearly 120 suites per property to enhance project viability.

"The extended-stay segment continues to be a bright spot, but owners need a brand that offers both operational simplicity and economic confidence," said Ron Burgett, Senior Vice President of Extended Stay Development at Choice Hotels. "This next-generation Everhome Suites prototype is our answer. It merges thoughtful, guest-centric design with operational discipline to streamline development and deliver a product that truly meets the needs of the modern extended-stay traveler."

Beyond the balance sheet, the prototype focuses on the resident experience. Suites will feature full kitchens and flexible workspaces, catering to the blurring lines between living and working. Operational efficiencies are baked into the design to enable leaner staffing models without sacrificing service quality, a critical factor in a tight labor market.

The redesign involved partners like BRR Architecture to ensure adaptability across various U.S. markets. The first ground-up projects using the new prototype are expected to break ground soon, building on recent brand momentum that has seen openings in Kentucky, New Jersey, and Texas, bringing the total portfolio to 27 operating hotels.

Industry Voices

Maya Rodriguez, Real Estate Developer (Austin, TX): "This is precisely the kind of innovation we look for. The significant construction cost savings and higher room count directly impact the pro forma, making projects in secondary markets much more feasible. Choice is clearly listening to owner challenges."

David Chen, Hospitality Analyst at Sterling Insights: "The focus on operational efficiency is smart, but the real test will be in execution. The extended-stay space is getting crowded. Everhome must ensure its 'lean staffing' model doesn't translate to a diluted guest experience, which is the core value proposition for long-term stays."

Sarah Johnson, Frequent Extended-Stay Guest (Project Consultant): "Finally! A brand that seems to understand it's not just a hotel room. A proper kitchen and a logical workspace are non-negotiable for me. If they can deliver this consistently without the premium price tag of some competitors, they'll have my loyalty."

Mark Fletcher, Former Hotel General Manager (Blogger, 'The Hospitality Skeptic'): "Another day, another 'groundbreaking' prototype. They all promise cost savings and guest satisfaction. Where's the proof? Cutting 13% from construction often means cutting corners. And 'streamlined operations' is just corporate speak for fewer staff doing more work. I'll believe it when I see sustained high guest scores and owner retention rates in five years."
