Pakistan Intensifies Counter-Terror Ops, 41 Militants Neutralized in Southwest Raids
ISLAMABAD — Pakistani military forces have eliminated 41 militants in a series of coordinated raids across the southwestern Balochistan province, according to an official statement from the military's media wing on Thursday. The operations, described as "intelligence-based," targeted hideouts in remote areas near the districts of Mach and Kalat.
The military said the slain militants were involved in recent attacks on security forces and infrastructure projects. Balochistan, Pakistan's largest but most sparsely populated province, has been plagued by a long-running insurgency led by separatist groups and militant outfits demanding greater autonomy or a share of provincial resources.
Analysts view this operation as part of a broader, intensified counter-terrorism campaign launched by the government following a national security review last month. The region's strategic significance is heightened by the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a multi-billion dollar infrastructure project that passes through Balochistan and has frequently been targeted by insurgents.
"These decisive actions demonstrate our resolve to uproot the menace of terrorism and ensure the safety of our citizens and vital national projects," the military statement read. No casualties among security forces were reported.
The operation's scale suggests a shift towards more pre-emptive strikes, security experts note. However, human rights organizations have repeatedly called for transparency and adherence to due process in such operations, concerns that are often amplified following large-scale engagements.
Voices from the Ground
Ahmed Khan, Security Analyst, Quetta: "This is a significant tactical success. The number of neutralized militants indicates a high-value target was engaged. The key now is sustained intelligence and development efforts to address the root causes of alienation in the province."
Maria Sameed, Human Rights Advocate, Karachi: "While we condemn terrorism, the lack of independent verification and details is troubling. We have seen past operations where claims were later contested. There must be accountability and a clear distinction between combatants and civilians to prevent collateral damage."
Col. (Retd.) Riaz Durrani, Islamabad: "Finally, a strong response! These insurgents have bled the province for years, targeting innocent workers and soldiers. This operation should have happened sooner. The state must use an iron fist to restore complete order—no more half-measures."
Fatima Baloch, Student Activist, Gwadar: "Military action alone is not a solution. Every such raid creates more resentment if not paired with political dialogue and economic justice. Our people are caught between militants and the state, yearning for real peace, not just temporary calm."
